Summary[]
Two schoolmates that know each other quite well, Suwano and Tsubaki, are given an assignment that takes them to a remote and dimly lit section of the school library. There, with both of them alone, Tsubaki takes time to give Suwano chocolates on White Day. But something more dramatic than that happens. Due to an accident, with Tsubaki falling to the floor, he gets to see that Suwano wears glistening black panties. He apologizes, and she understands, more or less, but now Tsubaki can't get that picture out of his mind.
At their daily drool routine, Tsubaki gives Urabe her 'lover's chocolates', but when Urabe tastes his drool, the image given is one of pitch black darkness. Eventually, Tsubaki 'comes clean' about how he keeps thinking about Suwano's panties. Urabe corrects the image in his mind in her always most unusual way, and with another drool taste, confirms that the black image has been replaced with a white image ( Urabe is wearing white panties today. For White Day ? ). Tsubaki learns his lesson, and knows that he can never lie to Urabe.
Plot[]
Akira Tsubaki and Ryoko Suwano are in a rather darkened and unused part of the school library. They are searching for a particular world map that is stored somewhere in the vicinity. Tsubaki comes upon a large paper roll, unrolls it, and Suwano says that this is the map that they are looking for, the map of the world in the 16th century. After the map is found, Tsubaki takes the time to tell Suwano that today is White Day (*), and to present to her with a thank you gift to reciprocate for her gift to him on St. Valentine's Day. He places in her outstretched hand a tiny box, gift wrapped, about the size that would hold a walnut. So tiny ? Tsubaki says that it is the thought that counts. Suwano is polite, but one can tell she is miffed by such a meager gift. This catches Tsubaki off guard, as his mind quickly reviews all that has happened to him so far today.
Earlier today, the history teacher had asked the two of them to go to the library and locate the 16th century map, so that the teacher can use it in an upcoming class. Both Tsubaki and Suwano are class reps, so the duty fell to them to locate and retrieve the map.
Now in the darkened library, Tsubaki wanted to give the present to Suwano so that Mikoto Urabe would not find out that he gave a present to another girl, a cute one at that ! However, Suwano, who is oh, so sly and perceptive, picks up on what Tsubaki is trying to do. She asks Tsubaki if he really loves Urabe ? He does ! Suwano continues---asking him what would he think or do if he knew that the chocolates that she gave him were not meant to be ordinary chocolates, but were meant to be chocolates given to one's perceived lover ?(#) Tsubaki's guard goes up, as he states that Suwano and himself are not in any kind of shipping, as he is currently dating Urabe. Dutifully, Tsubaki points out that if another girl showed an interest in him, he would immediately decline. Suwano 'ups the anti' by saying that his personal moral code would not matter if he was to keep the shipping with another girl a complete secret ! And what is Suwano talking about ? That she is willing to, if Tsubaki would potentially begin dating her, to keep their shipping a deep, dark secret ! Suwano then 'lays it on thick' by saying that if the two of them occasionally date, that she would be perfectly happy being 'Second Fiddle' to Urabe.
A shocked and confused Tsubaki reacts by taking a step backwards and away from standing so close to Suwano. However, his foot steps back onto a paper roll laying on the floor, and he begins to stumble and fall backwards, still holding onto the the rolled up world map of the 16th century. As he falls backward and downward, he clings to the rolled up map, with the top held by his clenched arm, and held against his chest, with the other end of the map between his knees and moving upward. The far end of the rolled up map catches the inside of the hemline of Suwano's school uniform pleated skirt, and pulls the hemline upward with it's upward movement. In a flash, with the hemline of Suwano's skirt now level with her waist, Tsubaki can see, for all he's worth, Suwano's trim and shapely bare legs and thighs, and the fact that she is wearing glistening black panties !!! As Tsubaki lands on the floor, the far end of the roll pulls away from the hemline of the skirt, allowing the skirt to gently flutter downward, and for the edge regain it's original position just a couple of inches above Suwano's knees.
" You saw !?1 " , is all that Suwano can say, ever so quietly, and standing ever so still.
Tsubaki loses no time in profusely and repeatedly apologizing, in addition to saying that he did not do that on purpose. Suwano begins by taking a hard line toward Tsubaki, kneeling down to meet him face to face---
" You will have to take responsibility for your actions ! "
However, Suwano immediately softens her attitude and stance. She says that she was at least partially to blame for what happened, standing so close and all. To close the brief discussion, she says that they both need to return to the classroom, now.
For the rest of the school day, Tsubaki is quite bedeviled by the incident in the library. Thoughts keep presenting themselves and turning over and over in his mind. " I've seen another girl's panties . . . . . . . someone other than Urabe . . . . . . . this is bad . . . . . . . and today is White Day . . . . . . . I'm supposed to give Urabe a present today . . . . . . . and all I can think about is Suwano's panties . . . . . . . . and that image of her black panties is now burned into my mind . . . . . . . at this rate, today will not be White Day, but Black Day ! At any rate, I can't let Urabe find out about this, so there is no way that I can let her taste my drool . . . . . . . !!! "
After school, who should Tsubaki meet as he turns a corner and walks onto the meetup bridge ? Yup, Urabe ! It's the bridge where they always meet every school day to give and receive drool. The two prepare for their daily drool routine. However, Tsubaki interrupts, telling Urabe that he has something for her. He gives her a gift wrapped box, telling her that this is his gift for White Day. Urabe wants to know if she can open the box right now, and sample what is inside ? Tsubaki says to go ahead. This Urabe does. After tasting the cookies, and after a period of silence, Urabe quickly goes for a drool taste from Tsubaki, but he blocks her attempt, saying that he, supposedly, has a cold today. A perceptive, angry Urabe orders him to remove his hands from his mouth, this he does. Urabe then does a quick drool taste of Tsubaki's drool, but the picture message transmitted to her mind is nothing but a pitch black pool at a cloudy midnight. She asks what is happening ? Tsubaki confesses. So now Urabe understands. Suwano's black panties. Tsubaki can't get that picture out of his head. Urabe comments that today must be Black Day, not White Day. That's what Tsubaki though earlier. Tsuabki says that he is sorry.
Urabe says that she will have to change that image in his mind, by showing him 'a certain something' that is white ! And with that, Urabe begins to spin like a female ice skater ( see Chapter 3 ). The faster she spins, centrifugal force begins to lift the hemline of her skirt outwards and upwards. Soon, she is spinning so fast, that her skirt is being held horizontal from her waist, like a tutu. And of course, Tsubaki can now see her sparkling white panties, rapidly rotating in such an erotic fashion. Just like an ice skater, Urabe in a flash halts the spin, as her skirt gently settles down to just above her knees. She then goes in for a second drool taste. Now this time Urabe sees nothing but the pure white of newly fallen snow. That is the image now in Tsubaki's mind. Urabe then reaches out as if to slap Tsubaki, but stops her hand right when it is touching his cheek. She then utters a profound statement---" Because of the nature of our bond, we can not lie to each other ! " Tsubaki only states that he knows that he lied about having a cold.
With that, Urabe pops another cookie into her mouth, and takes her leave. So sweet, those cookies are now! Tsubaki is left to himself to ponder what has happened today. Thoughts cross his mind. The drool never tells a lie. Suwano doesn't mind 'second place' if that means that Tsubaki will begin dating her. Having a 'secret affair' behind Urabe's back would be absolutely impossible !

(#) Obligation Chocolates / Lover's Chocolates on St. Valentine's Day---
In Japan, Morozoff Ltd., introduced the holiday ( St. Valentine's Day ) for the first time in 1936. Later, in 1953, it began promoting the giving of heart-shaped chocolates; other Japanese confectionery companies followed suit thereafter. Further campaigns during the 1960s popularized the custom.
The custom that only women give chocolates to men may have originated from the translation error of a chocolate-company executive during the initial campaigns. In particular, office ladies give chocolate to their co-workers. Unlike western countries, gifts such as greeting cards, candies, flowers, or dinner dates are uncommon, and most of the gifts-related activity is about giving the right amount of chocolate to each person.
Many women feel obliged to give chocolates to all male co-workers, except when the day falls on a Sunday, a [double] holiday. This is known as giri-choko (義理チョコ), from giri ("obligation") and choko, ("chocolate"), with unpopular co-workers receiving only "ultra-obligatory" chō-giri choko cheap chocolate. This contrasts with honmei-choko (本命チョコ, lit. "true feeling chocolate"), chocolate given to a loved one. Friends, especially girls, may exchange chocolate referred to as tomo-choko (友チョコ); from tomo meaning "friend".

In Japan, White day is celebrated one month after Valentine's Day, on March 14. In countries which observe White Day, typically Valentine's Day is celebrated by women and girls presenting chocolate gifts (either store-bought or handmade), usually to the other men and boys, as an expression of love, courtesy, or social obligation.
On White Day, the reverse happens: men who received a honmei-choco (本命チョコ, 'chocolate of love') or giri-choco (義理チョコ, 'courtesy chocolate') on Valentine's Day are expected to return the favor by giving gifts to the women. Gift exchanges happen between romantic partners, friends, and coworkers. Traditionally, popular White Day gifts include food like white chocolate, marshmallows, candy, and cookies, and other "white" accessories like jewelry, bags, lotions, and lingerie. Nowadays, gifts [for White Day] do not have to be white.
